Rock Island 17605 at Des Moines, IA, April, 1975.
From Ed Schaller, keeper of the Lehigh Valley RR Modeler web site:
This is an-ex LVRR Phase II caboose. Key spotting features which mark it as ex-LV are the pent gutters over the side windows, the cast three tread steps and the reinforced end railings and splash panels. The round porthole style end windows identify it as Phase II. Other Phase II spotting feature would be the style of roof grabs and the running board, both of which have been removed this car. See my caboose page (http://www.lvrrmodeler.net/cabooses.html) for examples.
According to the disposition list prepared by Mark Landgraff and John Kohler, and posted on George Elwood's Fallen Flags website (http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/lv/lv-cab.html), RI 17605 was originally LV 95135, built in 1946.
Thank you to Ian Clasper for putting us on the trail of the pedigree of this caboose.
